Emily Taylor
Emily Taylor's work explores themes of obsession, hoarding, and the emotional attachment to objects, inviting viewers to question our relationship with discarded materials and consumer culture. By collecting objects and images for her paintings, Taylor creates a visual diary that blurs the boundaries between the artificial and the natural. Her use of vivid colours contrasted with neutral tones challenges the distinction between human-made and organic. Different painting techniques, ranging from realistic depictions to scrubbed, ghostly remnants, reflect the persistence of non-biodegradable waste. Taylor’s work evokes a post-apocalyptic atmosphere, blurring the lines between comfort and discomfort; the familiar and the unfamiliar. Drawing inspiration from Mike Nelson’s installations and Stella Zhong’s cosmic paintings.
